Why is it called “Walk with Me”?
Attendees at Walk With Me are invited to not only educate themselves on some of the more academic topics of the day, but also on the lived experiences of many of the clients they interact with professionally; to walk with their clients is to better understand the various obstacles and challenges faced by many people seeking help, assistance, or support.
Service Provider Showcase
All participating agencies are invited to have a booth to showcase the work they do in the community. Service provider booths will be filled with information about hidden gems, and services that take referrals. During the day participants will have an hour to tour the room to make connections and build on their understanding of the services available in the community.
Before you Sign – Professional Development
Rural populations of immigrants, specifically individuals that are not native English speakers, experience significant obstacles in obtaining accurate legal information due to factors of isolation, distance, and language proficiency.
Leaders of ethnic communities, frontline workers of social service agencies may be the only contacts and sources of information that rural newcomers encounter. By helping newcomers and immigrants better understand legal systems and supports in Canada, there is an opportunity to avoid more costly and complicated legal interventions for them later. This workshop will inform participants of the existing legal information and resources to better support immigrants.
This is a networking event, come prepared to meet other services providers and interact with people that serve our community. Participants will have many opportunities to interact and build relationships across agencies through interactive discussions and networking activities. This event will have assigned seating to ensure cross-sectoral connections are made.
Who Should Attend?
Walk With Me is a networking opportunity for service providers to expand their referral networks, educate themselves, and promote their own work in an effort to improve the overall service delivery and client/customer care of the people they serve daily in their respective places of employment. Many clients are unaware of the scope and variety of services offered in St. Thomas and Elgin County, and a strong referral network can go a long way to correcting that.
What are the Expected Outcomes?

- Establish & strengthen working relationships and collaboration between service providers;
- Develop and expand referral strategies for clients to other agencies;·
