June 27th was Canadian Multiculturalism Day, and so members of the St Thomas-Elgin Local Immigration Partnership, YWCA, City Hall (including the Mayor Heather Jackson), MPP Jeff Yurek and community members came together to celebrate “both the tremendous value that immigrants bring to Canada as well as the tremendous opportunity Canada, including St. Thomas offers immigrants.”
Over twenty people gathered in front of City Hall, where short speeches were delivered by STELIP Project Manager Petrusia Hontar, Mayor Jackson and MPP Yurek, followed by a community pledge of acceptance and tolerance read aloud by all in attendance. A raising of a “Canada 150” flag closed out the ceremony.
Thanks to all who came out to show their support for Welcoming, Caring and Inclusive Communities!
