The Newcomer Information Package was first developed in 2012 and was recently updated in 2023. This resource is a guidebook for newcomers that helps them understand and access services in the community. It is also a good tool for service providers who serve newcomer clients.
The Newcomer Information Package is split into fourteen sections, covering all aspects of life in the St. Thomas-Elgin area: Settlement Services, Housing, Household Items, Food, Healthcare, Education, Finances, Employment, Transportation, Levels of Government, Safety, Culture and Recreation, Religion, and Canadian Facts.
This guidebook was written with the newcomer in mind, so it does not assume common Canadian knowledge and instead works to explain how things function in Canada, such as buying food from grocery stores or accessing money from a bank account.
