On Wednesday, June 27th at 11:30am, the St. Thomas-Elgin Local Immigration Partnership (STELIP) is excited to be hosting their second annual flag raising-ceremony in front of City Hall as a part of National Multiculturalism Day. The ceremony, which will feature the raising of the STELIP flag, a selection of short speeches emphasizing the historical role and continued importance of diversity and culture in St. Thomas and Elgin, and the reading of a community pledge, will this year be followed by a barbeque hosted across from City Hall. The barbeque is open to the public, and for $2 will offer a choice of hamburger or veggie burger and a pop or a juice. Live music will also be featured on the premises, and everyone is encouraged to wear something that expresses their cultural heritage: from a kilt to a soccer jersey, a hijab to a bonnet.
To help celebrate this National Day STELIP produced this video that will be played at the local Tim Horton’s, OnRoute, and at the Galaxy Theater.
