When organizers launched a networking event for recent immigrants and local service providers three years ago, they chose a name that showed camaraderie between the two groups.
They called the event ‘Walk With Me’ as a way of encouraging empathy for recent settlers and having service agencies walk with them on their journeys.
“The whole title of the event was really to show a level of care and of friendship with newcomers and treating them not as just clients but as kind of opening up to them,” said organizer Petrusia Hontar.
But the event is also a way for service providers to network with one another and share information about the programs they offer.
“You know the very general, one-line explanation of what a service does, but not the true detail that is offered,” Hontar said.
